The Protection Officer will assign to the BMZ project and he/she will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of vulnerable populations. This position involves assessing risks, implementing protective measures, and coordinating with various stakeholders and sectors at external and internal levels to address issues related to human rights, gender, safety, MHPSS and community resilience. The officer also facilitates training and awareness programs, helping to build local capacity for protection initiatives and ensuring compliance with international standards. Overall, the role is vital for fostering a secure environment for beneficiaries and promoting sustainable development within the project framework. The post holder will be working in Melut County.
- Identify and assess protection risks faced by communities, particularly women, children, and marginalized groups, and implement targeted interventions to mitigate these risks.
- Strengthen local capacities through training and awareness programs that equip community leaders and organizations with the skills needed to address protection concerns effectively.
- Foster active community participation in protection efforts, ensuring that the voices of affected populations are heard and prioritized in program design and implementation.
- Establish and maintain strong partnerships with local authorities, NGOs, and international organizations to create a cohesive response to protection issues violations and its reporting
- Participate with DME team on robust monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to track the effectiveness of protection initiatives and ensure compliance with international standards, providing regular reports to stakeholders.
- Advocate for the rights of vulnerable individuals and promote policies that enhance their protection and access to services, contributing to a safer and more equitable environment for all project beneficiaries.
- Coordinate and lead meetings or forums focused on gender and child protection with project beneficiaries.
- Enhance community understanding of gender and child protection issues
- Establish Child Support Committees and Children’s Clubs in selected villages, and engage with school officials to promote child protection and psychosocial support.
- Collaborate with program teams to ensure protection considerations are embedded in all aspects of project planning and execution.
- Conduct training and capacity-building sessions for staff and partners on protection issues, including mainstreaming techniques and best practices and MHPSS.
- Provide technical support and guidance to ensure effective application of protection measures.
- Monitor and assess the implementation of protection mainstreaming activities, identifying areas for improvement.
- Coordinate with other humanitarian actors, including UN agencies, NGOs, and government bodies, to ensure a cohesive approach to protection mainstreaming
- Develop simple/pictorial referral IEC materials for new/existing referral pathways and coordinate with field-level GBV SC to keep these up to date
- Attending protection and GBV working group meetings and share with Project Manager
- Preparing written protection updates for situation reports and submitting weekly, monthly and quarterly report to Project manager
- Establish formal referral pathways and coordination mechanisms with government institutions and other organizations and address GBV and Protection concerns
- Manage handle and refer cases related to child protection concerns Compile, document and share project related reports, data best-practices to project manager
Qualification & Experience for the Role:
- A minimum of a Degree Social Work/Psychology}' with 3 years or at least a diploma in the same discipline with 5 years’ of work experience in psychology and other social sciences
- Analytical, problem-solving skills and comfortable working under minimal supervision;
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Micro soft Excel, and email/internet programs;
- Proficiency of English language and Arabic communication skills
- Strong understanding of protection issues, including gender-based violence, child protection, and human rights
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in protection, with a focus on mainstreaming protection principles.
- Clear understanding of MHPSS approach and programming is an asset
